Windows 7 right on track
Microsoft has once again confirmed that Windows 7 is right on track and that they are still aiming for a release date that comes close to three years after the deployment of Windows Vista. Bill Veghte, Senior Vice President, Online Services & Windows Business Group, said on Thursday that Windows 7 remains on track according to an article published over at Cnet.
The article was updated lated on with a statement made by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer who did not reveal any new - and exciting - details about the upcoming Microsoft operating system. He did mention however that Windows 7 will look great and that it will be quite compatible which once again confirms that Microsoft will not implement any revolutionary changes in Windows 7.

1st! Pardon my ignorance, but when exactly was Vista launched? And then, following on that question, when will the three year period be over? Microsoft must hurry up and get Windows7 out, we’re all waiting!
Comment by Nick on 29 July 2008:
Vista was launched in January 07 not sure of exact date so 3 year period would be after January 2010

The exact launch date of Vista was on the 30th of January 2007, which means we’ll have to wait about another 18 months or so for Windows 7. Half way there!

Is the May 23rd, 2008 article “Windows 7 To Break Backwards Compatibility” now false? Microsoft keeps informing that 7 “will be quite compatible” Will 7 use virtualisation to make older programs run, which was said in the formentioned article?

From what I have read in other articles is Windows 7 will be based off of Windows Vista. From what I gather in that statement is, what Vista broke, will not be fixed in Windows 7 + the addition of other older applications/games that will be added to the list of no longer compatible. I wonder how many people really want to move on when a lot of corporations are still lax about upgrading to vista for this reason alone. Businesses spend a lot of man hours making custom software for their companies, and to force a system that has a high probability of no longer being compatible and having to reprogram all/most of their own programs will force commpanies to reconsider the thought of being a Microsoft shop and start from the ground up and migrate to *nix of one sort or another. YAY Microsoft!!!!!! Anyone else ever wonder what happened to the statement “The customer is always right?” Customer do NOT! want to be forced to upgrade because the old programs/games do not work, they sometimes like playing the older games, or using old software as it may contain information that is VITAL to migrate to a new version, once a new release has been made because the operating system is making changes.

After the release of Vista Microsoft took major hits, I don’t think they will make the same mistake. W7 is the most kept “secrete” OS so far, I think they are keeping this one in the closet as much as possible for the sake of the Surprise and WOW factor……… If you think back to the release of XP the same propaganda arose. People just don’t like change(NEW THINGS)

Microsoft needs to take a page from the Mac World. Scrap the outdated platform that all of the current versions of Window OS run on and START FROM SCRATCH. I find it quite funny how no one seems to realize that. Will they take a hit initially, absolutely. Will they be better off in the long run, absolutely. It is time for Microsoft to crap or get off the pot. If it takes another 3 years so be it. Just one mans opinion

Why would they start from scratch? Sure apple can do it because they barely take up a small portion of the market. But software giant like microsoft will have to abandon a huge portion of the market -most of which are with windows because of their compatibility- Bringing in new innovation to software does not require demolishing the old. There is nothing wrong with the win32 platform, and if there is they can just build on it. So i don’t see the reason why they should toss it out the door because you say so.

Windows 7 will be a slightly upgraded version of Windows Vista. I’m thinking Service Pack 2 like Windows XP.

Guys a Small note: Windows Vista was supposed to be released in 2003:D but after Microsoft’s delays it was released 4 years later
.,,,so what will you expect for windows 7 ?
AS For now im using Vista SP1…Stable! But not that much!
Personally For Me XP is still the most used Windows OS and the most stable!
What i like abt Vista is the UI..though most of the UI is taken from Mac OS X… I’ve waited 6 straight years for Microsoft to release Vista…and in the end i barely saw any difference between XP and vista…in addition Vista uses almost 10 GB of the HDD :S while XP less than it’s half…
Just Wishing for microsoft to prove themselves in 7!
