Windows 7 Multi-Touch Video
Multi-touch was another known feature of Windows 7 which was already demoed in May of this year. The PDC 08 did not fail to provide additional information to the multi-touch capabilities of Windows 7. New Hardware and APIs ensure that all applications that run on Windows 7 can provide multi-touch features to the user. Basis is the Windows Ink Service Platform Tablet Input System which receives, processes and sends multi-touch commands.
Microsoft is speaking of three application categories in this regard. Applications that have not been optimized at all for multi-touch, those that support support some multi-touch functions and finally those that have been developed to support multi-touch completely.
The following video is demonstrating some of the advancements since the first presentation in May. The language is unfortunately not English.
When an something doesnt work like you would expect it to, its called unintuitive. they got to get to work on the multytouch things… i often do what he was trying to do, resize two windows to be side by side taking holf the screen. they should really make something for that…. intuitive.
Spanish is the second most spoken languaje. Try it!!
Either the hardware he’s running the demo on is really old or Windows7 is quite slow in doing all that mulittouch magic. Zooming into an image or Word document with gestures seemed painfully slow to load.
I personally don’t need touch interfaces. They are clumsy, require huge buttons so fat fingers can touch them (just look at the new taskbar) and your screen gets covered in grease from various people putting their fingers on it.
I find that a mouse or wacom tablet makes far more sense as an input device than a touch monitor. Especially when you’re not that home user looking for a Windows experience but a professional using the computer for work.
no way josé.
