Internet Explorer 8

Microsoft has released a press statement earlier today indicating that the final release of Internet Explorer 8 would be offered for download on March, 19 at noon EDT. This poses an interesting question: Will Internet Explorer 8 final be included in the release candidate of Windows 7 or will the release candidate still ship with the release candidate 1 of Internet Explorer 8?

The release candidate of Windows 7 is expected to be released in April or May this year which makes it likely that the final version of Internet Explorer 8 is included in the Windows 7 Release Candidate release. The official Internet Explorer 8 website which has not been updated yet with information about the final release does not list Windows 7 as one of the supported operating systems yet. This could change as it is expected that Microsoft will update the page shortly before release time with information about the final version of Internet Explorer 8.

Interested users can visit Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 website for additional information later today.

IE8 is not avail for Win 7. below is the notice on the IE8 website.

We’re sorry, but you won’t be able to download Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 Beta at this time.

    Close

Windows 7 Beta already includes a pre-release candidate version of Internet Explorer 8 that is optimized for that release. Windows 7 enables unique features and functionality in Internet Explorer 8 including Windows Touch and Jump Lists which require additional product tests to ensure we are providing the best Windows experience for our customers. We will continue to update the version of Internet Explorer 8 running on Windows 7 as the development cycles of Windows 7 progress and plan to include the final version of Internet Explorer 8 in the release candidate version of Windows 7 later this year. For the latest information on Windows 7, visit the Windows 7 site.

So, help us out and beta test Windows 7. Your welcome.  Can I have the newest version I.E. 8 ? No!   However, do nothing to help Microsoft and you can have the latest version of I.E. 8.  Very much the norm these days. Sad

What I would like to know is how much of a difference is there between IE8 for Win7 and other OS's.
I'm sure that is why we have to wait for the Win7 RC1 to get the final IE8.
  • I'm quite interested to see how Internet Explorer 8 works as a browser as I'm a big Firefox and Chrome user, but also it should be interesting to see how the facility to remove Internet Explorer from Windows 7 works out.

What happens if you do things in the wrong order? Surely you won't be able remove your only browser and then have nothing to download Firefox with? ;)
  • I have just experienced the "Script" problem you mentioned on the main page & I am using IE8, unfortunately. I had to close out of the site & come back to it using the link in the email you send every day. I am not having a good time with IE8 since it locks up often & brings my system to its knees. I would like to go back to IE7 because I don't really have time to mess with IE8 right now. Can anyone tell me if I can do that?
