The Guessing Game Continues: Box Shots And New Logo Real?

Alleged pictures of the retail Windows 7 boxes appeared yesterday on a Polish news site (read: Windows 7 Box Shots Appear) which causes some controversy on various sites that picked up on that. Many said that the box shots looked fake and most commenters agreed that they did not look as professional as expected. Good old Long Zheng first joined the group of fake-sayers but later on changed his opinion after discovering a secretive Microsoft-only Facebook group.

The portal of that Microsoft Facebook group contained a banner ad that displayed the number 7 in exactly the same way as the box shots. Long therefor suggests that the box shots are most likely real.

Could there be another explanation for the similarity? Yes there is one. What if Long was not the first to discover the Facebook group? What if the guy who created the Windows 7 box shots discovered it as well and used the 7 from that group to make the box shots look authentic?

The Windows 7 box shots could be real or fake. It does not really make a huge difference, they are box shots after all and not an important live or die feature.

i sure hope this is not real. i wish they would make a box that has a black background and just a big shiny silver '7' over it. nothing else. that would be phenomenal!

    Like a MAC OSX Box...

The fact that they have BOXES for Anytime Upgrade is obvious proof that they aren't real.

My "Anytime Upgrade" came in a box. In fact, I thought the online version wasn't available anymore, which is probably why I had to get the boxed version.

However, if they are continuing this policy, they will probably drop the word "Anytime". Considering it wasn't even available in any local stores, it wasn't even a "Today" upgrade. I had to get it from Amazon.

You seem to be forgettign about the upgrade strategy with windows 7 though - all OS features are installed by default on all windows 7 installations. Then, based on the SKY and product key you're using, some features are disabled for higher-end sku's. Doing an upgrade means getting a new product key, putting it in the computer and possibly a restart (Like the way Windows 7/vista instal updates or change windows features), and bam, upgraded SKU.

I haven't tried thuis personally, but I have to reinstall windows 7 tonight anyway thanks to a raid rebuild, so maybe I'll give it a shot and get back to you all.

Not bad. It's very different. It doesn't really have a border, something that will allow it to be placed anywhere. Which makes me think it's probably not real. But I like how the light brightens into the top right of the 7. Like ends meet. 7/10

    lol,
