Redesigned Windows 7 News Site

Tip: Click here to run a free scan for common PC errors

The Windows 7 News site has just undergone a major overhaul, with the launch of a complete new design. The new design is a lot fresher and improves several areas for both new and old users.  I think everything is working ok, but if you spot any errors then please let me know.

Key Improvements:

  • Much cleaner design
  • Wider reading pane to improve readability
  • Bigger thumbnails and gallery images
  • Much, much faster pageloads – and more to come
  • Better access to category navigation
  • Category RSS and individual post RSS options
  • Better support of threaded comments
  • Better integration of Search (now in header), Archives Search and new Site Map
  • Fewer adverts
  • Access to more posts from homepage

Update: Thanks to Alex for finding the nice background

There will be many more changes over the next couple of weeks, including a new logo from our $200 competition winner.  If you want to see any new features on the site then just let me know!

Very nice, but there's 2x a Windows 8 news box at the right side. It will take some time to get used to I think. I see white everywhere now!
  • Thanks - fixed.  I will add a bit of colour to the theme once I've checked everything is working correctly

  • hmm threaded comments aren't working properly....

i like the old site better i think this is less organized everything looks thrown around........
  • under the "Other Recent Articles"  you should put the authors name and the date each article was published in the article box somewhere. That way readers could tell easly if it was posted today or whenever...just a thought!

im lovin the great site you have made, its really come along, following it since 18 months ago, its great, im not too fond of the 'sections' in the homepage, i preferred the old style where the posts are directly on the homepage at the top, but if it has to be there, i shall live with it.

i just feel that it would look more aesthetically pleasing if there were no sections like rumours, screenshots etc .. rather they were blog posts in ONE continuous list to see easily

also the posts should all have an image, to keep it in a particular format, for the ones that dont have an image, it should be like the comments, where there is a default image instead of just nothing

keep up the good work :)
  • I take your point about the sections. They are an experiment and may not be a permanent fixture. I'm not happy with the way the sections are formatted, which looks quite messy so I think they will go....in fact I'm going to get rid of them now!

I've fixed the default image - forgot to turn the option on.
