Hmmmm...Most of these can be found in Vista. The start up tab in msconfig is something I've used since XP. Not exactly "Windows 7 tweaks", but useful just the same.

Pretty weak tweaks if you ask me. The processor core tweak isn't a tweak at all. It doesn't change the number of cores for startup, it's only there if you want to manually limit the number of cores the OS uses. If you leave it empty Windows will automatically use all of your cores available. Disabling Aero in Windows 7 disables live Windows previews and Windows Peak so it actually hurts functionality quite a bit so shouldn't be recommended at all. Aero is also completely graphics card driven anyways so it has very little effect on system performance unless your trying to watch a blu-ray movie or something that needs a lot of graphics power. Aero automatically gets disabled during any 3D games as well so no worry there. And a lot of the other tweaks are just Windows or OS tweaks in general.

The Window Preview delay tweak is useful though.

I have my own tweak which shaves quite a few seconds off your boot time. Go to the start button > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Task Scheduler. Then in there, go to Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > System Restore. Double click on the "SR" task, go to "Triggers" and delete both of the triggers in there. They make a small system restore point every single time you log onto your computer and every night at 12am. I think the system restore feature is actually quite useful so I don't like to disable it, but Windows automatically creates a restore point any time a program or system update is installed anyways which is the only time anything actually goes wrong with your system anyways, and that ensures you have a new restore point at least once a week (provided you're not dumb enough to turn off automatic updates).

Another great tweak is to shrink the system restore storage limit.

that tweak is for Vista but it still works in Windows 7. I like to set mine to 4GB. I think that is a reasonable size.
  • The tips are titled 'Simple' so they were never going to be hardcore changes....

I'll try out your tip - thanks!

IF YOU HAVE 64bit: don't alter the msconfig.
It caused some serious problems for me, but as soon as I undid changes in msconfig, everything was fine.

This is honestly one of the stupidest fucking things I've ever read in my life. Either you're 12 years old or have severe mental deficiency. Did you even read that comment back to yourself? Did you really? If you read it back and still think it makes sense, please go play in traffic.

These tweaks just adjust the time to open the taskbar, force shutdown of programs, and turn off Aero. These features were intentionally added by Microsoft you dumb piece of shit. Jesus, comments like these really get me raged because you're probably 12 years old sitting there and is the future of our society.

Oh and that was a reply to nomadewolf.

The very first tip about setting the number of processors has been debunked on multiple websites, and thus makes me question the validity of the rest of the tweaks. Lifehacker and others state that this is false:
