Yesterday one of the stages in my ultimate guide to windows 7 codecs required a few Windows 7 system files to be renamed and in order to do this, ownership of the files was required.
Trying to take ownership by changing permissions in Windows 7 can be a bit fiddly, but their is an easier way to do this by installing the following registry change from IntoWindows.com. Just:
- Right-click on the ownership.reg file from this zip file and select Merge
- Say Yes to the UAC prompts and then click Ok
- Now you have a new option, Take Ownership, when you click on a file or folder that can be used to take ownership of Windows 7 files
