Which Security Program Is Best For Windows 7

Tip: Click here to run a free scan for common PC errors

I don’t know how, but all my PCs have simultaneously said that I have 12 days left before my free Kaspersky trial licences run out.  I was expecting this to happen one day, but I didn’t expect them all to expire at the same time as I’m running different flavours of Windows 7 – RC and RTM.

win7antivirusBefore I splash out my cash to get some new security software for my Windows 7 machines, I thought I’d ask the Windows 7 readers which program provides the best Windows 7 security, or should I install the free Microsoft Security Essentials? I’ve never used it – is it as good as Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton etc?

Installed it today at my work computer, but since I use Firefox, I won´t need it anyway.
  • Jrap
Well that is your first problem. You believe Norton is 'good'.

I use Kaspersky Internet 2010 and it works good compaired to others I tried in past
years such as Mcafee and Norton. I would recommend Kaspersky to anyone.

What do you mean? You don't need antivirus 'cause you use Firefox? If so, that's the dumbest thing I've heard today.

Haha. Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard. U can unistall all web browsers from your computer and it will be still vulnerary for viruses/trojans.

I used avast from a long time. That was my favorite antivirus program; but after 3 weeks ago I changed to Microsoft Essential and Its working fine. Its lighter, faster and works; since it detected some malicious files that my old antivirus didn't.

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security and I'm completely satisfied with it. Since it's based on an subscription you're always able to use the latest version even if it jumps from 2009 to 2010 for example. (There is no such 'Upgrade Version' crap like others have) The best thing about it is the performance. It includes all components a security suite should have but doesn't slow down my system at all like other products do (leers at Norton). The definitions are updated almost hourly and keep your PC safe even from new viruses etc. I think I don't need to mention it's stability and reliability, it's simply the best security program out there. It both has easy mechanisms for beginners and also very specific setting options for professionals. It's easy to use for both kinds of people. It also has very less fake alarms (detecting a virus which isn't one) than other programs I tested. It might be expensive but if you use the internet day by day intensely (like I do) I highly recommend Kaspersky, since version 2010 is already fully compatible with Windows 7. (I can confirm that)

Take it slow, bro'. Sounds too much like an excerpt from a marketing presentation (from kaspersky) to take your opinion at face value.

First, Kaspersky is NOT certified for Windows 7 - the company has indicated they will put out a new version AFTER Windows 7 is released. All you need to do is go to their forums to confirm that fact. Second, if you look around their forums you can also find people who are having problems with the program with Windows 7. Third, if you go to the Microsoft Technet forums you'll find other Kaspersky issues, including a BSOD problem in the past. Finally, given the huge problems people had running Kasperky's products with Vista, smooth sailing should not be assumed. I'll never touch a Kaspersky product again, after I was directed to only use their beta server for updates for a couple months with Vista (was also the only time I ever encountered a BSOD with Vista). I was less than impressed with being directed to "use at your own risk updates" for a product I purchased that claimed Vista compatibility. I was equally unimpressed with the useless alleged tech support....

Stephen diffently keep Windows Defender.. An Anti-Virus and a firewall is two diffrent things 1: An Anti-Virus (as in the name) protects for viruses 2: A Firewall protects your computer from hackers. So deffently keep Windows Defender and an Anti-Virus
