How to Change the Background in WMP12

I love the ability to customize and manipulate the operating system that I use and this is the main reason I use Windows OS’ (sorry Ubuntu users). While I realize that open source makes this even easier, I like the security and stability that I personally find in Windows 7. That being said, A friend showed me a simple, but unique way to customize WMP12 even further. It’s a very subtle change, but a change nonetheless. This is going to be a very brief and easy post on how to change the image that is used as the background for Windows Media Player 12:

(Warning: This tweak involves changing values within the registry. Be careful not to inadvertently edit or change any other values or entries as this can have serious affects on your system.)

First, you will need to open the registry editor. Do this by typing regedit in the search box on the Start menu, then hit Enter.

The next step involves navigating to registry key, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences.

W6

Double click on the LibraryBackgroundImage key name and a dialog box will appear asking for a value. You can enter a value between 0 and 6, each changing the background to a different style. You will need to Restart WMP12 each time you change values.

Here are a couple of the changes you will see:

I have always found little system tweaks like these very helpful and interesting. Hopefully this brief how to helps. Let me know if you have any other WMP12 tweaks that you’ve discovered.

Nice Tip. It's a very minor change, but a pretty cool one. I wonder why Microsoft would hide something like this in the registry?

The FPO (for position only) in two of the images is really funny. I wonder why MS even left the images in the code, when they apparently weren't meant for the final product. Although I really like that gimmick I'd much prefer a cleaner and leaner code. Who knows how much more dispensable code there is.
