Get Windows 7 Aero Snap On Mac

View Comments December 24, 2009 | Robert Boland

The Windows 7 Aero effects, really bring the OS to life and help improve productivity. To find out more about the Windows 7 Aero effects and how to use them, see our guide here.

It appears that Mac users are also stubbornly admitting that they would like to have some of these Aero effects as well. In particular, Aero Snap, which automatically resizes windows so you can have two windows open side by side.

Then do the same with the other window and you can view both at the same time. This feature also works when maximizing windows, simply drag them up to the top of the screen and they will automatically resize to fill the whole screen.

Mac users can now have this handy little Aero effect thanks to a program called Cinch. You can download the program for free, but every time it loads up it will nag you to purchase the full version for $7. So if your constantly switching between Windows and Mac, it might be worth your while paying the $7.cinchs 400x132 Get Windows 7 Aero Snap On Mac

Once installed Cinch works much the same as Aero Snap on Windows 7. Simply drag the windows to the side, or top of the screen and you get the same results as Windows 7.

The nice thing about Cinch is that it resizes windows better than the built-in minimize and maximize buttons in OS X. Depending on the app you’re using, clicking the “maximize” button will only expand the window to a pre-determined size, and you still have to click and drag the corner of the window to take up the entire screen. Cinch on the other hand, maximizes a window so it takes up the entire viewing area.

The developer has noted that it can be difficult to use this program with multiple monitors and it doesn’t work with every application, but it does work with most.
