Microsoft Starts Windows 8 Development

Microsoft has been keeping a tight lid on details about Windows 8. So far, information about Windows 7’s successor has been either based on remarks slipped out by Microsoft officials or rumours. However recently the Russian website, WZor, has revealed some interesting titbits.
The site claims that Microsoft has started the engineering of Windows 8. It even mentions details about builds that have been already [...]

Microsoft Investigating into Windows 7 Zero-Day Threat

Last Wednesday, researcher Laurent Gaffié published on his blog information about a bug in the Server Message Block (SMB) that can be exploited to perform denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. The SMB protocol is generally used for sharing files, printers and serial ports on a network. The vulnerability is said to affect both Windows 7 and Server 2008 Release 2. Gaffié criticized the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) several times for not proving to be [...]

“Windows 7 GUI Inspired by Mac”… Not True

Yesterday, PCR trade magazine carried out an interview with Simon Aldous, Microsoft’s partner group manager. The interview was running smoothly until the Microsoft employee was asked: “Is Windows 7 really a much more agile operating system, in terms of the specific uses it can be moulded to?”
Aldous gave out a response which would - most likely - start another endless PC vs. Mac debate. For some [...]

The Ultimate Guide to: Windows 7 Aero

If we look at the different versions of Windows, since Windows 1.0 until today’s brand new Windows 7, we’ll notice that there are some features, such as the taskbar and (obviously) windows, that exist in all of them and are actually the ‘heart’ of Windows. Apart from becoming more efficient with the release of every new version, they look better. Who wouldn’t like to work [...]

Windows 7 Sales Outrun Vista’s by 234%

According to the leading market research company, The NPD Group, Windows 7 sales in the USA for the week of October 18-24 have exceeded those of its predecessor (Window Vista) by 234%. This figure includes the pre-orders of Windows 7, which had – surprisingly - outsold UK Amazon’s own ”Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” novels as Robert B mentioned earlier. Stephen Baker, [...]

New Apple Commercials Attack Windows 7

With the launch of Microsoft’s latest operating system, there’s a lot of excitement in the air. The Redmond company obviously wants Windows 7 to takeover Windows XP’s position and is trying hard to avoid any bad publicity as Mike Halsey mentioned in a previous article. This has made some people (including myself) wonder:
How will Apple respond to the Windows 7 launch?
The answer came the day following Windows 7’s [...]

Windows 7 to Get Security Patches on Tuesday

Microsoft has announced last Thursday on The Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) that it’s going to release, via Windows Update, 13 security patches on the forthcoming Tuesday (October 13th). This is nothing new as the Redmond company releases security bulletins on a monthly basis. [...]

Microsoft to Open “Windows Café” in Paris

With Windows 7’s launch just around the corner, Microsoft seems to be trying its best to come up with new – creative – ideas to increase the public awareness of Windows 7. Yesterday Microsoft started sending out a finalist message – via email - to those who have been selected to host a Windows 7 launch party. So if you’ve signed up, check your inbox to see if you’ve received a message like the one that Sean Marshall got. If you’ve received one, it means that you’ve been chosen. But before celebrating, you still have two things to do:

A Closer Look at: The Windows 7 Taskbar -Part 1

As we get closer to the Windows 7 launch (22nd of October), it’s worth considering the fact that users new to Windows 7 might to face some “learning curves”. Mike Halsey had discussed this earlier in an article that focused mainly on the new taskbar and how it can be confusing for new users. Fortunately, I believe that Windows 7 is [...]

Want to Host a Windows 7 Launch Party?

Last week we reported that Microsoft decided to set up a big launch event for Windows 7 in New York, just like it did with its predecessor (Windows Vista). However, it seems that Microsoft isn’t doing everything ‘exactly’ same way as it did with Windows Vista. Instead, it has come up with new ideas to celebrate its [...]

Microsoft Going to Celebrate Windows 7’s Launch in New York

In 2007, Microsoft launched Windows Vista and Office 2007 in a big ceremony that was held in New York on January 30th. With Windows 7 a couple of weeks away from its general availability (where it’ll hit store shelves on 22nd of October), some people are wondering whether or not Microsoft is going to have another big launch event for Windows 7.
